NEWS
4 classes in only 1 day - Wednesday is your Bachata Day

On 11th February we started the new semester. Registrations are still open.

There is a new course: Modern Bachata, beginner level at 7.30 pm. The Solo Bachata class pauses this semester. So this spring and summer it's all about the partnerwork at BACHATA STUTTGART BY LOU.

For those, who already have experience with Traditional Bachata is the intermediate level at 8.30 pm.

Also, the Modern and Sensual Bachata are merged into one course, addressing dancers of intermediate skill level, at 9.30 pm.

My recommendation for Beginners:

The Traditional Bachata class at 6.30 pm and/or the Modern Bachata at 7.30 pm are perfect options.

Traditional Bachata

Wednesdays,

starting on 11th February 2026 – July 2026

6.30 pm

In this course, you will learn the basic steps of Bachata and the variations you can use to convert the dance into a unique experience. What is Bachata, and where does it come from? How can you lead and follow? All of this and much more will be taught in this course.

The style we focus on is called "Traditional" Bachata (= Dominican Bachata) to distinguish it from other Bachata styles - when in reality it's just called "Bachata" by the Dominicans who created the music and dance of Bachata. Bachata is a social dance that thrives on the principle of everyone dancing with each other in class. In the Dominican Republic people tend to dance with family members and friends, not necessarily with strangers. Nevertheless it's not something that is danced only with the romantic partner, but rather a social activity bringing people together in public spaces as well as private gatherings. Coming from the D.R., a country located in the Caribbean, sharing the island with Haiti, Bachata has spread across the world.

You don’t require a partner to sign up. Partner rotation is part of the concept, so there are no fixed dance couples. Additionally, you will become familiar with the principle of Role-Rotation. According to this principle, all students learn both leading and following. You have never done it before? No worries, here you'll learn step by step what smooth leading & following means.

With lots of fun, you'll not only learn new dance steps but also meet new people and learn a little bit about Caribbean culture. Improve your sense of rhythm and your body coordination in a group of young, international people, who, with fun and openness, are discovering a new hobby that might become your passion, too.

Modern Bachata

partnerwork

Wednesdays,

starting on 11th February 2026 – July 2026

7.30 pm

In this course you will learn the basics of Modern Bachata, a style which was mainly influenced by other music genres in the U.S.A. in the late 90s and 2000s. Dominican immigrants shared their culture and music in places like New York City and merged R'n'B, Hip Hop and other Latin and Caribbean rhythms with Bachata. The steps differ from the Traditional Bachata, although the pattern of "1, 2, 3, tap" remains the same. This style is described to have a more elegant look, due to its linear patterns and its stricter technical rules.

Modern Bachata resonates with many people who are not very familiar with Latin or Caribbean music. The music sounds more "pop"-ish compared to Traditional Bachata and spread quickly around the world, reaching non-Latin audiences through international hits like "Obsesión" by Aventura in the early 2000s.

(Traditional) Bachata is the passion we share in this course. After having completed the beginners' course this course will offer you more movements and variations. Practicing different patterns, learning challenging basic variations and applying footwork to express more sensitivity of the music and creativity will bring you joy and confidence on the dance floor.

The hip movements will be closely looked at to achieve a natural look while dancing. You're encouraged to find your own style in this course.

This course is not recommended for beginners.

Modern & Sensual Bachata

Wednesdays,

starting on 11th February 2026 – July 2026

8.30 pm

Modern Bachata, as the name suggests, is a more contemporary development of Bachata. It evolved strongly within Dominican diaspora communities, especially in New York City, while (Traditional) Bachata remains rooted in the Dominican Republic and its social dance culture.

A solid understanding and proper execution of basic steps and turns, as well as the fundamental principles of leading and following, should be familiar to you if you want to join this course. As in all our classes, we dance in couples and apply both partner rotation and role rotation.

Furthermore, you will dive deeper into the world of Bachata and gain detailed insights into its different styles. This includes strengthening your understanding of musical structure and variation, as well as developing your ability to interpret the music through movement. You will also expand your repertoire to make your dancing more varied and expressive.

Bachata Sensual is a modern Bachata style developed in Spain (Cádiz). It is strongly influenced by Brazilian Zouk and incorporates fluid, body-oriented movements that have been reinterpreted within the framework of Bachata. While some sources suggest that the softer, more romantic music of Juan Luis Guerra in the 1990s contributed to shaping a style closer to what we associate with modern Bachata today, Bachata Sensual as a distinct dance style emerged later within the European dance scene.

Since the late 2000s and early 2010s, Bachata Sensual has been widely promoted across Europe and has gradually influenced international Bachata communities, including in the Americas and Asia.

The fusion of flowing, sensual movements with Bachata fundamentals will challenge you and help you develop a new set of skills, especially useful when dancing to modern Bachata music.

Through this course, you will gain more confidence on the dance floor. Your leading and following will become cleaner, and your movements will feel more natural.
